“The charity’s objects and powers are established in particular, but not exclusively, for the benefit of those who live, work and study in Sawston, Cambridgeshire and elsewhere locally. To relieve either generally or to individual persons who are in conditions of need or distress, to provide advice and support for individuals disadvantaged through poverty. “

As with all UK charities, JHC must prepare and file online accounts and a trustees’ report for all to see on the Charity Commission website each year.

JHC in 2017

The Charity had 22 properties, ranging from 1 bedroom flats to 3 bedroom houses. Its residents are granted a licence for three years during which time they are encouraged to bid for Council properties which might come available. This active policy enabled 5 families to move into permanent homes during 2017, with a further 5 families then being helped for the next three years.

The Charity also gives financial support as Grants to local groups and charities working in Sawston. Over £27,000 was given out as major Grants to a variety of groups and organisations to assist their work with Sawston residents. Small community grants were given to local organisations including Sawston Youth Group, Sawston and Linton locality, Brownies, Icknield School, Camsight, Green Road/Plantation Road scheme, Sawston Community First Aid responder. In addition, JHC’s Grants to individuals totalled £17,671.
